On Friday, February 18, President Biden sent a letter to Congress stating the national emergency declaration will be extended beyond March 1, 2022. Each National Emergency declaration generally lasts for one year unless the President announces an earlier termination.

As a reminder, the National Emergency is different than the Public Health Emergency (PHE) which was enacted by HHS Secretary Becerra. The PHE is still in effect and renews every 90 days. Currently the public health emergency is set to expire April 16, 2022.
